Why have so many people chosen to live in Inland North County? LOCATION: Situated in the Coastal Foothills approximately 20 miles north of San Diego, the Inland North County area is close enough to the coast to enjoy its cooling breezes , but far enough inland to avoid much of it's fog. An eight to ten-lane Interstate freeway links the communities to San Diego and to the Escondido in the north. A soon-to-be-opened route to the coast will link the area to Del Mar. State roads lead to mountains and deserts to the east as well.
Poway began as a small farm community on the stage line that connected San Diego to the rapidly-growing cities to the north. It grew slowly until developers began to create the planned communities of Ranch Bernardo and Ranch Penasquitos to it's west. Fearing that Poway would lose it's rural flavor, in 1980, residents of the area incorporated into a city and adopted a slow-growth policy that has maintained Poway's well-deserved titled of "The City in the Country" As a result of their foresight the city is financially stable and offers residents an array of recreational and entertainment facilities.
The City's greatest pride is its 800-seat state-of-the-art Preforming Arts Center located on the campus of Poway High School. It's season includes a wide variety of name entertainment, dance and theatrical productions.
Lake Poway nestled in Poway's norther hills, Offers fishing, boating, campgrounds, picnic area, playing fields and miles of trails. The 700-acre plus BlueSky State Ecological Reserve, adjacent to the lake includes a wide variety of interpretive programs as well as a beautiful riparian setting for native wildlife.
Most neighborhood are within walking distance of pocket parks with a variety of playground equipment and amenities. The Community Center offers swimming, playgrounds, permanent playing field, as well as a large multi-purpose room and stage. The Weingart Senior Center shares the site and provides a myriad of activities, as well as hot meals, for Poway's seniors. In addition to the private 18-hole golf course in the City's northern hills, Poway in surrounded by more than 72 public and private golf courses within easy driving distance.
Nearly every type of housing is available in Poway' s rocket-strewn hills and valleys-from horse property to estates, moderately priced homes, and even condominiums. It is a part of the nationally recognized Poway Unified School District and offers high quality private schooling as well.
The Poway road commercial area extends to the width of the city. Redevelopment has brought the city a spacious new library, a theater, restaurants and neighborhood shopping. The South Poway Business Park, located in the hills to the south of the city, is one of the largest commercial developments in the state. With easy access to other parts of the county, it has attracted major businesses, as well as start up companies to the areas.
Lake Poway is a man made water reservoir that is regularly stocked with fish. There is a beautiful park for picnicking and games. Lake Poway is also a favorite location for hikes and nature lookers.
